I'll be in my Ishtar in 18 days. Good timing!
Although I will probably run some LVL4 missions, and then some lowsec to get used to it before I make the trip to null.
And if you dont mind the potential risk and anoyance of ending up in strange places, the WH transit system can work quite well. |

I know it becomes a bit more of a low sec loot pinata, but I have enjoyed a Navy Vexor for plexing. Realistically I haven't found pirates to feel differently about what I fly, they will try to gank regardless.

It's cap stable at 30% with everything running, including guns. Does 451 DPS with my skills. Blasters can deal with frigs while drones kill everything else. You can go with 4x Ogre's but it only changes the DPS by about 4. Tanks 218DPS against serpentis setup this way. Speed of 444m/s
I've thought about dropping a cap recharger for a web, but I like being cap stable without worrying about pulsing anything.
Edit.
I should say I also have a cloaky scanner alt that does my scanning, hacking, analyzing. Otherwise you could swap the cloak for a probe launcher. Similar you could adjust the mids for a codebreaker. Either way, this is primarily for combat sites. |

Yes of course.
My situation honestly may be a bit unique compared to many looking for information in this post, so I will throw it out. I currently reside in a wormhole with a low sec static. This is what got me into more low sec sec exploration as I end up in some very interesting places, a new one every day.
So I always have my home base close at hand. I have a number of ships I use depending on the nature of the sites to run, as well as the threat level in the area. I will use everything from an ishkur through myrmidon (Ishtar in another 14 days woot!)
Typically I will send out the scanning alt to scan several systems in the area ahead of time, and then bring out the site running ship once I have determined what things I can safely run.

A question, to those lucky enough to be out with their Ishtar, exploring already.
How are you actually scanning down the sites? An unbonused ship like the Ishtar is going to be getting <=70 points from their probes, even with Sisters probes/launcher...so how successful have you been at scanning down radar and mag sites in 0.0? oops, forgot to bump. glad there's still interest. out of the hundreds of sites ive scanned, ive only not been able to pinpoint about 4-5. thats all i can really say, i dont know the exact numbers. but Goob covered that. re: other posts. ive covered all i know about Minnie ships in an earlier post, and i did concede that the Tengu is actually better at this than the Ishtar (slightly), but the price difference makes it not worth it if you lose one.
I'm not sure I agree that the Tengu is better. If you have 2 pilots maybe, but for the true solo Ninja I'd take my Ishtar over a Tengu any day and twice on sunday. |

Just playing around with crazy fits. Tried this with the new damage mods. Yes it is a pimp ship compared to an Ishtar. But has the added benefit in 0.0 of being viable with the interdiction nullifier sub.
In this variation i setup to use ogres. But you could swap the nav for an omni and use sentries.
stats (at 5) 527 DPS Ogres, 213 DPS Blasters (void) 740 DPS total Tanks 783 DPS against serpentis as configured.
The advantage over the ishtar:
1. nullifier sub. You can't covert cloak it, but you can safely mwd cloak your way past bubbled camps 2. scanning sub. Makes scanning easier.
Disadvantage
about 800m as fitted.
Thoughts?

That's pretty nice for a nullifier fit! Cap life is not great, and EHP is low, so there's not much room for mistakes. I think heavies are the right choice for Proteus, fitting sentry dmg augmentors just doesn't feel right with 100mbit/s, I went for more (omni) tank on my exploration Proteus. Maybe this thread should be left for the Ishtar, however :)
Except a precedent has already been established throughout this thread talking about non-ishtar options for those who cannot fly it.
And the Title is Nullsec Ninja plexing. Not ...."In an Ishtar" |

So I had a scanning question for all you Ishtar fans.
I was playing with the exact fit from the OP on the test server earlier this week. I actually found a radar in syndicate space. But when i tried to scan it down, I could not get past about 60% of a lock. This was with 8 probes out.
Granted on the test server I only had access to a Core probe launcher 2 and core scanner probes (no sisters gear).
My skills are astrometrics 5 and the rest at 4.
Thing is even at all 5 + sisters gear, it doesnt seem like it would be enough to actually get a lock?
So for you solo pilots, how are you doing it and what skills/ implants are you using.
Obviously if you have a scan alt, or a separate ship to scan in, I don't need to know that. I'm really interested in those using their main in the ishtar scanning. |

Akturous wrote:Rats barely attack sentry drones and they have a lot of hp, so it's fine. I have a small remote repairer in a high slot for repping up sentries when they take agro. Small drones take a little more agro, but it's nothing to worry about.
Honestly I've seen the opposite. My sentries get attacked a TON. On the plus side it's usually the battleships and the sentries can tank like a boss. I just pull the one taking aggro then re-deploy. I changed my load out slightly to put some light armor drones in to rep them when needed.
On the plus side, it means a whole lot less the Ishtar actually has to tank at times, which actually works. Haven't lost a drone yet. |

Baron Birco wrote:I've been wanting to try out complexes for a while. I like the idea of using an Ishtar because its cheap, has respectable DPS and can basically handle whatever type of rats it encounters due to the versatility of drones (frigs to BS - close to long range). I also never saw drone aggro as a means of deflecting some incoming dmg whilst using a small RR to keep them alive - excellent point. My question remains - what exactly can this ship handle in terms of pirate faction, complex type & rating (7/10 or less?) As for a fit I'm considering using dual complex small reps (they are fairly cheap) - the same idea as some folks like to tank their Tengu, reference: Tengu PvEThe remaining lows would be for pirate-specific resistance. I can also provide the Ishtar with off-grid boosts via Damnation. Perhaps the boosts are over-kill...? Specifically my questions are: 1. How high do relevant resists need to be vs said faction? 2. Given high enough resist, how much dps should I be able to tank? 3. Is there a particular faction, complex, or complex rating I should just plain avoid? I'm assuming nothing over 7/10. 4. How bad are the complexes that neut? 5. Do radar sites scale in difficulty according to a system's true sec or are they all pretty much the same difficulty? All of this assumes I am AB speed tanking and prioritizing correctly, i.e web towers, scram ships, neut cruisers, ect...
I was testing the new AI on the test server with an ishtar fit identically to the OP, with the exception of meta 4 in place of any faction (since you can't really get deadspace or faction stuff there).
the toughest thing I tried, was a Serpentis Forlorn Hub which isn't really too bad, unless like me, you manage to pop all the triggers early. I ended up with about the first 3 waves all at once.
I did end up warping out one time, but otherwise it was doable. Part of the help was that the Battleships would often target the sentries. but at long ranges did little damage.
As far as the tank, unfortunately there is no good armor equivalent to the dual small booster setup that a tengu uses. For one, there is no armor boost amp. You need your lows for the drone damage amps (tengu has its lows free for BCUs).
1. As high as possible? I have only used an Ishtar against rats it is best for (serpentis and guristas). 2. I suck at figuring out the numbers, but between the signature and repping power I'd say feasibly it tanks 800dps against serps (my raw rep power is 408 and the rest I'd attribute to sig/speed tank) 3. The OP claims running his fit up to 8/10. I havent tried personally. 4. Bad. Active tanks don't like neuts. with a MWD you can keep pulling range, drop sentries, rinse repeat. Thats my standard method when the DPS is too high. 5. Radar sites for the most part are easy compared to any combat sites.

Din Chao wrote:Great thread.
I do have a question though. Since I just came back to the game and haven't trained them yet, are Salvage Drones usable on Mag site cans (the ones that require a Salvager instead of an Analyzer, obviously)?
Pretty sure they cannot.
and Funky, interesting fit. It's not the cost of your fit that kills it for ninja exploration (at least solo like the OP talks about). but more than you lose all of the utility. no probe launcher, codebreaker etc. |
